Tank losses in the Rome offensive and invasion of France were so much greater than had been expected that the Army has ordered a large increase in tank production and plants which had been shut down are being reopened.

So urgent is the Army call, that the tank production program may be placed on a level as high as that occupied by landing craft and heavy artillery, said a WPB official. (Army Times).
